The short answer

To connect LinkedIn Ads to Claude or ChatGPT, add https://linkedinads.hireotto.com/mcp as a remote MCP connection, complete the HireOtto sign-in, then ask the AI assistant to connect your LinkedIn Ads account. LinkedIn handles the second authorization. Finish by listing your accessible ad accounts with their IDs, roles, and write capability.

That sequence matters because there are two separate connections:

  • AI client → HireOtto: gives Claude or ChatGPT access to the LinkedIn Ads tools exposed by the MCP server.

  • HireOtto → LinkedIn: authorizes the LinkedIn identity that already has access to your Campaign Manager accounts.

Start with a read-only account list and hierarchy check. Do not make your first test a campaign launch.

Table of Contents

What you need before starting

  • An AI client that supports remote MCP servers over HTTP and OAuth.

  • A HireOtto trial or paid plan. LinkedIn Ads is available across HireOtto plan tiers; usage and credit limits still follow your plan.

  • A LinkedIn member account that can open the required ad account in Campaign Manager.

  • For reporting only, Viewer access is sufficient.

  • For campaign or ad changes, an appropriate ad-account role.

  • For sponsored-content creation, the necessary permission on the associated LinkedIn Page.

HireOtto is hosted. You do not need a LinkedIn developer application, API keys, JSON credentials, a terminal, or a local process.

The setup in one view

  • Add the HireOtto LinkedIn Ads endpoint to Claude or ChatGPT.

  • Sign in to HireOtto when the client opens the OAuth prompt.

  • Start a new conversation and ask to connect LinkedIn Ads.

  • Authorize the LinkedIn identity that has the correct Campaign Manager access.

  • List accessible accounts, roles, and write capability.

  • Map the selected account’s hierarchy with a read-only prompt.

  • Only then move to reporting, targeting, or draft creation.

How to connect LinkedIn Ads to Claude

Claude supports hosted custom connectors that use remote MCP.

For Claude Free, Pro, or Max

  • Open Customize → Connectors.

  • Select +, then Add custom connector.

  • Name it HireOtto – LinkedIn Ads.

  • Paste https://linkedinads.hireotto.com/mcp as the remote server URL.

  • Select Add, then Connect.

  • Complete the HireOtto authorization prompt.

Claude Free accounts currently support one custom connector. Pro and Max users can add custom connectors directly. If your menus differ, look for Connectors under Customize or account settings.

For Claude Team or Enterprise

An Owner or Primary Owner may need to add the custom connector at the organization level first. Members then open Customize → Connectors and connect their own account.

This separation is useful: the organization approves the server, while each user authorizes the tools and data available to their identity.

How to connect LinkedIn Ads to ChatGPT

In ChatGPT:

  • Open Plugins and select + to add a connection.

  • Name the connection HireOtto – LinkedIn Ads.

  • Select Add, then Sign in.

  • Complete the HireOtto authorization prompt.

Custom MCP availability and menu labels can vary by plan and workspace policy. In managed workspaces, an administrator may need to allow custom MCP apps or plugins. If you cannot see the add option, check the workspace’s app permissions before troubleshooting the server.

Authorize LinkedIn Campaign Manager

Once the HireOtto server is active in Claude or ChatGPT, start a new conversation and use:

Connect my LinkedIn Ads account.

HireOtto returns an authorization link. Open it, sign in with the LinkedIn identity that can access the required ad account, review the permissions, and approve the connection.

Return to the original AI client after authorization. The MCP connection may be active even when LinkedIn is not yet authorized, so do not treat a visible tool list as proof that Campaign Manager access is complete.

Verify the account, role, and write capability

Your first LinkedIn request should be:

List the LinkedIn Ads accounts I can access. Include each account name and ID, my role, and whether the connection is read-only or write-capable.

A successful list confirms both connections. Select the working account by the returned name and ID rather than relying on a similar name.

LinkedIn’s role is the real permission boundary:

  • Viewer can inspect campaign data and reports but cannot create or edit campaigns or ads.

  • Creative Manager can work with ads in supported situations but has narrower campaign permissions.

  • Campaign Manager and higher roles can create or edit campaigns and ads, subject to LinkedIn’s other requirements.

  • Some sponsored-content actions also require Page-level permission, even when the ad-account role is sufficient.

OAuth does not elevate the LinkedIn identity. HireOtto can only work with accounts and actions that LinkedIn already permits for that member.

Run a safe first account read

Before asking the assistant to optimize anything, map the hierarchy:

For LinkedIn Ads account [account ID], list the campaign groups, ad sets, and creatives.
Include their IDs and statuses. Read only.

HireOtto uses ad set for the object LinkedIn’s API calls a campaign. The user-facing hierarchy is:

  • Ad account

  • Campaign group

  • Ad set

  • Creative or ad

Confirm this structure before changing budgets, dates, targeting, or status. A request aimed at the wrong layer can be perfectly valid and still produce the wrong operational result.

Four useful prompts after setup

1. Pull a performance report

Report ad-set performance for [account ID] over the last 30 complete days.
Include impressions, clicks, landing-page clicks, spend, conversions, and engagement.
Summarize the main findings and return CSV. Read only.

2. Compare creatives

Compare creatives in [ad set ID] over the last 30 complete days.
Separate delivery problems from weak response, flag low-volume conclusions, and propose a test queue. Do not pause or edit anything.

3. Explore professional demographics

Break down eligible performance by job seniority, then by industry.
Use compatible metrics, explain suppressed or delayed data, and do not infer individual identities.

Professional-demographic reporting is privacy-protected. Small groups can be suppressed, and the results may lag standard performance metrics.

4. Resolve and size a targeting hypothesis

Resolve valid LinkedIn targeting entities for [geography], [companies or industries], [functions], and [seniorities].
Estimate audience size. Show ambiguous matches for review.
Do not create or update a campaign.

The important phrase is resolve valid entities. It prevents the assistant from inventing LinkedIn identifiers from plain-text company names, titles, or skills.

When you are ready to create something

Keep the first creation workflow in draft:

Validate a draft LinkedIn campaign for [offer].
Use the approved objective, budget, dates, targeting, landing page, image, copy, call to action, and alt text below.
Create nothing active. Return every created ID and a review checklist.

Use this sequence:

  • Retrieve the current account, role, and hierarchy.

  • Resolve and size the audience.

  • Validate the campaign inputs.

  • Create supported objects in DRAFT.

  • Inspect every returned ID and setting.

  • Preview the ad in Campaign Manager.

  • Verify the landing page and tracking.

  • Activate only after a named human approves.

Campaign creation is multi-step, not transactional. If a child object fails after its parent was created, inspect what exists and resume from the failed step. Rerunning the entire workflow can create duplicates.

Common setup problems

  • Confirm the endpoint is exactly https://linkedinads.hireotto.com/mcp and ends with /mcp.

  • Complete the client-level HireOtto sign-in.

  • Enable the connector or plugin in the current chat.

  • Refresh or reconnect if the client cached the previous tool list.

  • In a managed workspace, confirm that custom MCP connections are permitted.

No ad accounts appear

  • Confirm the authorized LinkedIn identity can open the account in Campaign Manager.

  • Check whether the account is managed through LinkedIn Business Manager.

  • Reconnect with the correct LinkedIn identity if you used another login.

  • Ask for the accessible account list again after permissions change.

I can read the account but cannot create or update

  • Inspect the role returned for the account. Viewer is read-only.

  • Confirm the role permits the requested campaign or creative action.

  • For sponsored content, confirm the associated LinkedIn Page permission.

  • Check Campaign Manager for billing, lifecycle, or account warnings.

A report is empty

  • Confirm the account and object IDs.

  • Check that the selected objects delivered in the requested date window.

  • Use a broader but still complete reporting window.

  • Allow for delay and privacy suppression in professional-demographic reports.

  • Treat a valid empty response as a diagnostic clue, not a reason to repeat the same request unchanged.

Security and review boundaries

The connection uses OAuth. You do not paste LinkedIn passwords, developer secrets, or access tokens into the conversation.

Still, OAuth is only an access mechanism. Safe operation comes from the surrounding workflow:

  • Connect the LinkedIn identity with the least role needed for the job.

  • Confirm account IDs before account-specific actions.

  • Use read-only prompts for orientation and diagnosis.

  • Request a preview or validation before consequential changes.

  • Create new campaign objects as drafts.

  • Review audience, budget, dates, destination, creative, Page identity, and tracking.

  • Keep activation separate from creation.

  • Disconnect the app or revoke access when it is no longer required.

HireOtto does not independently decide to optimize accounts in the background. It executes supported actions when the user or AI workflow requests them.

How HireOtto helps after the connection works

The setup is only the doorway. HireOtto turns the LinkedIn Ads connection into a practical operating layer inside Claude or ChatGPT.

It can identify the accounts and roles available to the connected member, map campaign groups, ad sets, and creatives, run account-to-creative reporting, analyze eligible professional demographics, resolve real targeting entities, estimate audience size, work with supported image assets, prepare supported campaigns and single-image ads as drafts, and apply selected updates after review.

The practitioner still owns the important decisions: which account is in scope, whether the audience reflects the ICP, what the budget can support, whether the creative is on-brand, whether tracking works, and when a draft should become active. HireOtto does not create LinkedIn Lead Gen Forms, validate the Insight Tag in a live browser, or replace Campaign Manager’s final preview and billing checks.

Frequently asked questions

Do I need a LinkedIn developer application?

No. HireOtto hosts the MCP server and handles the platform integration. You add the remote endpoint and authorize the LinkedIn identity that already has Campaign Manager access.

Is the same server URL used for Claude and ChatGPT?

Yes. Use https://linkedinads.hireotto.com/mcp. The client setup menus differ, but the HireOtto endpoint and LinkedIn authorization are the same.

Does connecting the server automatically connect LinkedIn Ads?

No. The MCP connection and the LinkedIn Campaign Manager authorization are separate. Complete both, then verify with the accessible-account prompt.

Can a Viewer role create campaigns?

No. LinkedIn treats Viewer as read-only. Use it for reporting and account inspection. A write-capable workflow requires a suitable ad-account role and, for some ads, LinkedIn Page permission.

Can I connect more than one LinkedIn Ads account?

One authorized LinkedIn identity can expose every ad account available to that member. The account list should show the accessible accounts and roles. Always select the working account by ID before a longer request.

Can HireOtto create campaigns immediately after setup?

It can prepare supported campaign objects as drafts when the role and inputs permit. Run at least one hierarchy read first, validate the payload, create nothing active, and review the result in Campaign Manager.

Can HireOtto create LinkedIn Lead Gen Forms?

Not currently. Use an existing eligible form where a supported campaign workflow requires one.

Why do the menus in my AI client look different?

Claude and ChatGPT change interface labels, and managed workspaces can add admin controls. Look for Plugins, Apps, Connectors, Tools, Integrations, or MCP settings, then add a remote HTTP server with OAuth.
